Brian and Charles are a do-it-yourself team that call themselves "IngeniousBongs," and they have dedicated themselves to producing a series is instructional videos in which they demonstrate how to construct a wide variety of different smoking devices including bongs, pipes, and hookahs. They always use inexpensive commonly available materials, and in this video, Charles films Brian's demonstration which shows how almost anyone can quickly build a PVC bong. The materials required include a red plastic "Solo" drinking cup, a one foot section of 1 1/2" PVC pipe, a 6" length of 1/2 " PVC pipe, 8" of clear acrylic tubing approximately the same width of a drinking straw, a bottle cap, and some hot glue sticks. The tools needed are a razor blade, a drill, a small hand saw, and a hot glue gun. The first step is to use the razor to cut the bottom off the plastic "Silo" cup. This is hot glued to the bottom of the 1 1/2" pipe. This forms the base of the bong. Next, use your power drill to drill a hole in the 1 1/2" piece of pipe large enough to insert the 1/2" section of pipe snugly. Care must be taken to insure that hole is drilled at an angle so the stem and extends out and up from the bong at a 45 degree angle for the bowl to rest in. The bowl must be assembled next. For this type of bong, a bottle cap forms the bowl, and a hole is drilled so that plastic tubing can be inserted and secured with more hot glue. This tubing is then inserted into the 1/2" stem where it must extend all the way through and into to the water that will be added to the main body of the bong through the opening in the top prior to smoking from it. It simply rest here due to gravity, and is not attached, so that the smoker can remove it as he finishes taking his "hit" and pull all the remaining smoke in the chamber into his lungs. They do include footage of Brian filling the finished bong with water from a coffee pot and they make jokes about the sound created by this.
